GTA 4 Cars

I don't know about you, but despite the fact I didn't manage to grab Grand Theft Auto IV yet, I thought it would be a good idea to get back to the game. No, I won't get into GTA 4 cheats again, because there's plenty of time to do that in the future, and maybe next time when we'll talk about those, I'll also have the game around (did I tell you I hate my geek friend who told me about those codes, simply because he has a PS3 loaded with GTA 4, and I don't?). <-120x240 Vertical Banner - left->For now, I think it would be great to talk about that impressive number of cars in GTA 4, don't you think? Unfortunately, there are plenty of them, so I'll start now, leaving the rest for another time, and then another time, and another time, because there's enough in GTA 4 to fill a large parking lot!
Yummie, GTA cars! Starting with the "A" letter, first on the list is the rear-wheel drive Admiral, pictured above. For each of the cars I'll manage to find data for you today, I'll give you the following data - name, transmission type and number of gears, mass, value, top speed, 0-100km/h acceleration, remaining for you to discover how each car handles, how durable it is, and so on. Are you ready? Here we go...

Admiral GTA 4 Car

- Admiral - 5 gears RWD, 1700kg, $25000, 266 km/h (165 mph), 9.6 seconds
- AirTug - 5 gears RWD, 1400kg, $15000, 266 km/h (165 mph), 27.8 seconds
- Ambulance - 5 gears 4WD, 2500kg, $40000, 266 km/h (165 mph), 8.6 seconds
- Banshee - 5 gears RWD, 1500kg, $80000, 336 km/h (208 mph), 4.4 seconds
- Benson - 5 gears RWD, 7500kg, $40000, 189 km/h (117 mph), 19.3 seconds
- Biff - 5 gears RWD, 9000kg, $40000, 176 km/h (109 mph), 23.0 seconds
In the picture above, you can see a car that's called "Blista Compact" in the game files used by my geek friend I mentioned earlier (I must add I also love him for all the help he provides when I'm in need) to extract the data, but looks like a Toyota Corolla GT-S from the 1980s to me. What do you think?

Project Torque, Updated

Before anything else, I have to warn you about one thing: while this isn't exactly a review, there's a serious reason for not doing it and remaining at the "news" stage. Some games are underrated without any serious reason, while others are pushed forward only by the name of a franchise and memories of a glorious past. The games I am talking about are Project Torque, the one that just got from Beta to a whole new stage, and Need for Speed ProStreet, my greatest disappointment ever, when it comes to racing games. So...why Project Torque?

Project Torque Diane

<-125x125 Button - left->Well, Project Torque is one of those few MMOGs involving racing, and it's probably the only one that looks and feels great. As you can see above, they finally have added a chick to the login screen, so things are getting better and better... Anyway, this is not about chicks, because there are a lot of things to do in this game, as you can see if you grab it, install it, and spin those tires!

Corus S3

Because I don't like to read articles about cool games that look like poetry, this time I'll try to give you more pictures, and less words. When we'll get to fully review the game, things are going to be completely different, I can promise you, but we should wait a little until that moment arrives.

Drag Racing

Now, let's see what do those guys at Aeria Games have to say about this latest version of Project Torque, codenamed "Diane," shall we?

"We are happy to announce the release of latest version of Project Torque. Thursday night 11:30 PM PST the servers will be down for 3-4 hours as we update our servers to the new version.

When the servers come back up the new version will be available. It is a large update (about 500 MB)and might take a while to patch during peak hours. To help off set this we will list other sites where you can down load a whole new client. It is large file, but might be faster. The list of down load locations will be available in the PT forums.

We hope you enjoy all the new exciting play modes, items, and mission system.

Stay tuned for new cars, tracks and specialty events!"

Kawana

Well, they didn't say quite much, but the servers are now back, so you can race against other human players, practice, take part in drift races, drag, but that's not all. My favorite racing mode is Capture the Flag, shortly known as CTF. You heard that right, CTF with cars! Need I say more?

Myato Wizz

I know that when it comes to car handling and damage, car simulators fans may be disappointed, but I must confess this game's physics remind me of the good old NFS Porsche, and there's also something that should be noted - Project Torque is a game under continuos development, so various issues are being fixed "on the fly."

Racing

The system requirements are not outrageous, and if your computer can handle the first Need for Speed Underground, Project Torque should also run pretty well.

Capture the Flag mode

Oh, one more thing - this game is completely free, although some cars can only be purchased with real money, there's plenty of fun to be had for those that don't want to spend a single buck.

Anyway, I've said too much already, so I'll leave you now with Project Torque, but be sure we'll get back to it. Keep those wheels spinning!

Changing The Game

AMD is changing the game! No, they didn't release any "out of this world" piece of hardware, and even the ATI HD 4800 series launch has been delayed a little, being now expected for the 23rd of June. Leaving that aside, we have some news regarding AMD's newly launched AMD Foundation, which announced this week its Changing the Game initiative, a project with a very interesting and useful goal - to "improve critical technical and life skills by teaching kids to develop digital games with social content."

AMD Changing the Game

<-250x250 Square - left->According to Suzanne Seggerman, co-founder and president of the initiative, "Today’s youth are highly concerned about social issues and the current generation of youth gamers is among the most socially conscious in history." Really? Maybe in her area, because most of the youths around me don't give a rotten tomato on social issues, other than "social drinking," "social smoking" and related things..."The movement toward educating and engaging youth through digital games for change not only raises awareness of the importance of social issues, but gives youth an opportunity to make a difference," she concluded. I fully agree with this, but I need to see it happening, too.

What else can I say? I really hope AMD will manage to accomplish these noble goals, because there's always more to computers and gaming than the machine and the raw performance. Behind most computers and games that are being played, online or offline, there's a child, and in many cases, that computer can shape the future of a human being. Good to see someone is finally doing something about it, or at least they are trying!

UT 3 Level Design Contest

Unreal Tournament 3, despite the fact it didn't manage to break any sales records, and it didn't even score very high in most reviews, is one of my favorite games. Don't ask me why - if you're one of those playing it, you know the answer, and if you didn't play it yet...here's a reason to start right now: a level design contest!

UT 3

<-250x250 Square - left->Today, 3D Buzz announced its "Old School Level Design Contest" for Unreal Tournament 3, a contest that's "unique in that ONLY those assets included with the retail version" can be used to build your levels. What does this mean?

Well, "This means that even if you’re completely new to the modding scene, you still have a chance to win some incredible prizes, including a chance to have your level reviewed by none other than Epic’s Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski!" Say whaaat? OK, but if you're not such a great Epic fan, what's in for you?

Grand Prize Winner:

- $1000 cash prize
- PlayStation 3 game console (or $500 cash)
- Autographed copy of Unreal Tournament 3 signed by the developers
- Video review of your level by the staff of 3D Buzz
- Video review of your level by Epic Design Director Cliff Bleszinski

First and Second Runners-Up:

- PlayStation 3 game console (or $500 cash)
- Autographed copy of Unreal Tournament 3 signed by the developers
- Video review of your level by the staff of 3D Buzz

I'll take those PS3s, thank you! Oh, I have to design a level, first. Even more, it seems there are more parts in this contest, and the first one is focused on creating a deathmatch type map. Sounds good to me. Are you in, or out?
