Midway Shooting!
If you say "Midway," most gamers would think about Midway Home Entertainment, Inc., and they are exactly those under my scope today, but let me tell you a few things regarding Midway, before moving on to the subject. When saying "Midway shooting," one can think about the historical Battle of Midway, or the PC game Battlestations: Midway, a game that made me go crazy, because my PC was a bit above the minimum system requirements, so I played for about 10 minutes at 800X600 resolution and minimum details, cursed my (fortunately) former computer, and thrown the game inside my desk somewhere. Now, it's about Midway shooting its employees...

First of all, let me tell you I didn't say anything about the Midway online shop for shooting supplies above, since I am not crazy at all about real guns, and probably gamers outside the US never heard of it. OK, now, let's see what's all this Midway shooting about, shall we?
"Career Criminal" doesn't ring any bell for the obvious reason of being a secret project, but now it's no longer a secret simply because it was terminated. <-250x250 Square - right->With it, Midway decided to shoot...errr, fire 80 people from its Austin studio. Fortunately, the Austin studio won't be closed, according to Midway's interim CEO, Matt Booty, who also said the ones not shot...err, fired yet will continue to work on new games. Hopefully, these games will end up on our computers, and not in the Recycle Bin, as it happened with Career Criminal...
While everyone is watching Midway, expecting the best from the latest Mortal Kombat game, Wheelman and This Is Vegas were both delayed to 2009, so they'll both miss the Christmas shopping spree.
Speaking to Kotaku, Matt Booty said that "The Austin studio is important to us in a growing and competitive game development location. Although we are canceling a major title, the other projects in development at the studio will continue, and we will continue to invest in new teams and new people going forward. Our Central Outsourcing Group - which has become an outstanding resource for all of our development teams across the company - will also remain active in the Austin studio."
So, why did they cancel Career Criminal? Just imagine the game was a title supposed to compete with GTA 4, so this gives you the right answer - the "Midway shooting" wasn't just a random event, it was a measure of stopping a fight before it started, since the odds were not looking good at all. After all, who would dare to challenge GTA 4, now?
