Fallout 3 After Midnight

Fallout 3 is coming, and nobody can do anything to stop it! Yup, that's right, it's all happening tonight, as it was previously announced. Fallout 3 PC, Fallout 3 Xbox 360, and the PS 3 versions will arive tonight, and since best thing to do now is to give you the info from the official press release, here you have it...

"Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, has announced that in response to huge demand for it's award-winning game, Fallout 3, more than 2,000 stores across the country will open tonight. Starting at midnight, customers can pickup pre-orders and buy the game at retailers nationwide. The retail chain, Best Buy, plans to have special midnight events at stores in the Washington, DC, New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Dallas and Chicago metropolitan areas.

"Fallout 3 has been a labor of love for the team at Bethesda and we can't wait to get the game into the hands of consumers," said Todd Howard, <-250x250 Square - right->Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios for Fallout 3. "We're looking forward to celebrating the launch of Fallout 3 with the fans."

Members of the development team at Bethesda Game Studios will appear at the Best Buy store in Rockville, Md., near the studio's offices, to meet with fans. Special festivities will include game kiosks, giveaways, contests, and a live radio broadcast from the event with DC 101 FM. Game director Todd Howard will be on-hand along with other key members of the development team to sign copies of the game and chat with fellow gamers.

Fallout 3 will be available on store shelves and online in North America on October 28, in Europe and Australia on October 30 and in the UK on October 31. Developed at Bethesda Game Studios - creators of the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Fallout 3 is slated for release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows.

Fallout 3 features one of the most realized game worlds ever created. Set more than 200 years following a nuclear war, you can create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of Washington, D.C. however you choose. Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, and other dangers of the Wasteland.

Hailed as one of the most anticipated games for 2008, Fallout 3 has already won numerous awards including Best of Show from the official Game Critics Awards at E3 2008 and a perfect 10 out of 10 review score from Official Xbox Magazine.

Fallout 3 has been rated Mature by the ESRB. For more information on Fallout 3, visit www.BestBuy.com/Fallout3, http://fallout.bethsoft.com and www.prepareforthefuture.com."

While I am sure a lot of people - including myself - will go crazy about this game, it is really a pity to see it rated "Mature." On the other hand, a post-nuclear mayhem scenario isn't exactly something you'd like to be the core of the games your kids are playing, so maybe it's better this way...

These being said, be sure to remember it - just after midnight, Fallout 3 is being unleashed. Too bad I didn't manage to pre-order it, but I guess I won't die if I wait for a little longer for my Fallout 3 PC copy...

Legendary Pictures – Epic’s Assassin?!

Just two games - Unreal Tournament III and Gears of War, just two games are enough to say about Epic they really know what they're doing. If you add that whole library of games developed using the latest Unreal Engine, such as Blacksite: Area 51, as well as those currently under development, you get the picture of a pretty successful company. Everything looks fine so far, only that Epic Games(Epic Games), as we know it, may soon cease to exist...

I have nothing against the movie industry, but if what I just heard about Legendary Pictures and Epic happens, this could only mean the beginning of the end for the gaming industry, as we know it. The equation is very simple - since the movie industry makes a lot of money, way beyond what virtually any games company could ever dream of<-180x150 Small Rectangle - right->
(just for the record, I don't consider Microsoft Games a "real" games company), they may simply engulf the gaming industry, and then change everything. It may sound a bit paranoid, but don't tell me this is not possible!

Anyway, the story goes like this - according to a bunch of anonymous sources, cited by Variety, the movie company I mentioned above is currently "in negotiations to acquire Epic Games, the North Carolina-based developer of videogames including Gears of War."

I don't know what else should I add, especially since this story seems surrounded by a thick fog. Nobody made any official statement, except Epic Games vice president Mark Rein, who said "What I told Variety was that 'We're not going to comment on the rumor' and that 'We have already publicly announced that we're working with Legendary pictures on the Gears of War movie and that we have the utmost respect for Thomas Tull and his organization."

If you ask me, I would really like to see Epic remaining the way it is. Why? The answer may be found as soon as they start releasing new titles, after being purchased, if that will ever happen...

Age of Conan PC – The Return

Age of Conan, PC, and a bunch of crazy MMORPG gamers, that's enough to start a war. Obviously, I am not talking about really crazy gamers, since "crazy about MMORPG" should be enough. Just like in any real war, there are advances and retreats, and if you're working on such a game, these are the last things you want to see. The reason is obvious - a retreat means less users, less money, and the beginning of the end. While Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is a really good MMORPG, it seems there are people leaving it, but that's not something out of ordinary. The interesting part is how Funcom plans to lure them back into the game's world...

Thinking about promotions? Maybe even a few free months for those turning their faces to Age of Conan once again? Well, not quite, since Funcom's Craig Morrison simply said they will do all that's possible to provide a better service to the existing subscribers, and then rely on a "knock-on effect," as GamesIndustry.biz writes.

Talking to Eurogamer, Mr. Morrison said <-180x150 Small Rectangle - right->"In the MMO space, word of mouth is incredibly important. If we can show that the players who are playing the game are having a good experience, that the game has improved and that they can see that - that they're talking to us, and we're engaging with them... That has a positive knock-on effect."

As a direct conclusion of this fact, all they need to do is solve the problems with Age of Conan, PC or Xbox 360 version, and that should bring people back pretty easy, according to Craig Morrison. "When people first mention the game, they don't necessarily hear a negative voice - they start to hear people going 'actually, you know, the guys have fixed all of that - the game's better now, you might enjoy it now'," he said, and I must agree with that, only that he forgot one thing - if a game like this one gets negative reviews after being officially released, most of those reviews won't be changed simply because various issues have been fixed...
