2009 Game Statistics

I am dazed & confused. It may be because it's past midnight, but it's not. As far as we all know, and most of us also feel, we're going through a pretty tough crisis. It gets even more interesting when you're living in a country that's being lead by a bunch of retards who simply can't manage such a crisis, but - fortunately - it's not the same with most private companies. I say this because something has been done right last month, if we look at the hardware sales in US during January...

I know it has nothing to do with how well the US is taking care of the crisis, but I can't say I have any idea exactly why is this happening. Just look at this - during January, videogame hardware sales went up 17 percent, when compared to the same period of last year. Talking about numbers, we have $445 million in hardware sales, while software sales accounted for $676 million, but only a 10 percent rise.

According to NPD's Anita Frazier, "We would expect to see a greater percentage of total industry sales generated by software sales, but the continued strength in hardware sales is changing that scenario a bit. This will have a long-term positive impact on the industry as the user base expands. Software sales still increased 10 percent over last January, indicating that continued strong hardware sales are not occurring at the expense of software sales."

Awesome, too bad it may be a few moments too late for Midway... but if we look at the same NPD report for January, we'll also see a solid drop of Sony's hardware sales, almost 25 percent when compared to last year's January sales.

All this makes me wonder - what's going to happen with Sony in the long run? Just think about Microsoft's Xbox sales growth(25 percent) and the impressive Nintendo Wii climb of no less than 60 percent, and you get the idea. Sony, hang on, we don't want to miss you! Really...
