2009 Games To Die For

A new year has come, and with it, the wait for certain games got a whole new dimension, and when I say that, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 should be enough to enforce my words. The longer list of 2009 games to die for can be found on GameSpot, but I will only take the best out of it, and maybe also add a few more items of my own.

As I was saying, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 are games some people really died expecting them to come out, especially if they also got unlucky in Irak, Afghanistan, or driving on the highway. Anyway, the idea is that, if these two games from Blizzard manage to hit the market in 2009, a few million gamers will have their hands full for at least two years. After all, there are still plenty of people playing the original Starcraft, right?

Another game series I will never forget is Total War. In 2009, Empire: Total War should introduce gigantic real-time land battles, and real-time naval battles in the Age of Sail. We're getting closer to the 20th century, it seems. I can only hope to see a game in the series allowing you to play the period including the two big wars of the previous century, maybe even the smaller ones towards its end, like the Vietnam War or the first Gulf War. Until then, Empire: Total War gets the second position in my "2009 games I would die for" list, after Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, who both get first place.

Expect to drop in 2009's Spring, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II will offer a unique campaign, nicely assorted with lots of violence and gore, only that will probably be rated "M," so if you're below 18... you won't enjoy this one, at least for now.

The list of games I don't really care about includes The Sims 3, a possible follow up to Need for Speed: Undercover, and the plethora of mindless shooters that will surely assault us. Left 4 Dead was enough for me, and seeing it being ranked everywhere as one of the best games of 2008 was more than enough, so I will stop here, but not before asking - what's the game you would die for in 2009?
