PlayStation News

PlayStation news, anyone? No, it's not about price cut. Hey, missed that, it's not about some new PlayStation console, either! It's all about licensing rights and a bunch of new apparel and accessories nicely branded...so I hope you're enough of a PlayStation fan to consider this as worthy of your attention!

PlayStation News

This is all happening in Europe, as Target Entertainment has been named as consumer product licensing agent for PlayStation software IPs, and they are in for business, because it's all starting to roll as we speak.

The best part is that it all starts in Europe, but Target won't stop there. A wide range of PlayStation toys, food stationary, and housewares will become available across Europe and Australasia, as soon as they start rollin' out of production facilities.

Stephanie Freeman, licensing and peripherals manager at SCEE, said "Many of Sony Computer Entertainment's first party software titles and characters are now recognized by millions of people around the world – from the legendary Ratchet and Clank through to the iconic Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet. We really want our consumers to have the ability to interact with our brands and characters in ways other than just on screen. We feel Target Entertainment has the vibrancy and experience to help us do this successfully."

At the other end, Target's global brand director, Helen Howells, said "To work with a brand like PlayStation, and its range of products, is a great opportunity for us. With a portfolio of fantastic games we will offer new and longer standing fans a range of products that will really add to their PlayStation experience."

Now, we only need to wait and see what's headed this way. ...a PlayStation mug, anyone? :)

Just as a side note, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare comes right after Street Fighter IV, despite its age. Also interesting to notice is the fact that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars entered top 20 already, but it's a shame GTA IV isn't available for the Wii, it would have been really interesting to see its ranking...

That's it for today, see you tomorrow for more gaming news!

Ubidays 2009, Gone

Today I'm sad. The idea behind the economic crisis' impact on gaming was to have less titles, and better ones. On the other hand, some games for a small and dedicated audience will probably die, or get delayed, but why see big gaming events like Ubisoft's Ubidays disappear? Why???
Ubidays 2008 Hands-On
In the last years, this event brought together the press and retail people in Paris, showcasing Ubisoft's portfolio of titles, as well as offering awesome hands-on and interview opportunities with the ones behind the games to come from the gaming giant.

Now, Ubisoft says "With regards to Ubidays, with the E3 event in the US, the GamesCom in Europe and Tokyo Games Show in Japan, we think that we’ll have great outlets to present our creativity and innovation to a worldwide audience and will therefore reconsider our plans."

That's most of it. To be honest, I really don't know what to think, especially since Ubisoft is one of my favorite games company. Just say "Silent Hunter" and I'm already in another world!

The positive part is that Ubidays started out as E3 got smaller, and now the word is out that E3 will get back to its entire lost glory, so "the European E3" is no longer needed.

Well, there you have it. Now you see it, now you don't - that's Ubidays, but don't worry - Ubisoft still has a lot to say and do in the industry, and one less European event doesn't mean nothing, at least for now.
