Battle For Midway, The End

I am sad. Really, really, sad. I hear dogs barking outside, but that has nothing to do with my mood. Today it was a gloomy day, with a lot of rain, something you wouldn't expect to see in February, especially when - at least that was true a decade ago - during this time of the year it should snow. OK, now, the truth is that Midway is gone, and that's the reason of my sadness.
Battle for Midway Mortal Kombat

In fact, it's more than just sadness. I feel like a part of me has died, and I guess that happens with all gamers who loved at least one of their games. Unfortunately, life will go on without them, but after seeing those layoffs and the ridiculous $100,000 sale, I was hoping to see them afloat for a few more years, at least. Well, they just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection...

...and according to Matt Booty, Midway's President and CEO, "This was a difficult but necessary decision. We have been focused on realigning our operations and improving our execution, and this filing will relieve the immediate pressure from our creditors and provide us time for an orderly exploration of our strategic alternatives. This Chapter 11 filing is the next logical step in an ongoing process to address our capital structure."

This is only related to US operations of Midway, and despite the success of titles like Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe or TNA iMPACT!, I guess we should keep a moment of silence in their memory. Midway, you'll be missed, and if there's a gaming heaven in the "corporate afterlife," I am sure you'll reach it. RIP!

Chapter 11 does not mean they are going out of business...they may still pull through, though i doubt it.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. Considering the actual context, and the fact they have been bought with only $100,000, and probably don't have enough people to come up with new games like the ones they managed to release before the layoffs... it's RIP.
