Bioshock 2 On The Way

Bioshock

It has been confirmed for a while that the work for Bioshock 2 has started already. A source (Hrej.cz) states that Bioshock 2 is already in the pre-production phase and the the expected release date is around the middle of 2009. It is a common fashion these days to see famous movies having prequels, with plots having the action set before the events from the original story. Bioshock 2 might be the one to set a precedent for games: the action will take place before the story in the first Bioshock. It will be interesting to see what game-engine will be used this time and what system requirements will be presented.

It's hardly a precedent. Prequels are made all the time. Castlevania III on NES was a prequel. Since then, many games in that series have taken place even earlier than that game. Baten Kaitos Origins was made after Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, but took place twenty years before it. The entirety of the Metroid Prime trilogy takes place before Super Metroid.

What I'd like to see is if, unlike with the original Bioshock, the PS3 version of Bioshock 2 will come out day-and-date with the PC and 360 versions.
