When reality doesn’t work for you, there’s a good chance you can think of something more appealing and juicy to pass the time with. Dedicated Star Trek fans can spend their spare time practicing their Cardassian in a dialectic war of finesse. By all means, train that Klingon attitude and become battle hardy by wielding the Bat'leth blade of honor. But if that’s too fleshy for you, why toy around with your radioactive multimedia devices and build a phaser?

Gamespot uncovered a post on the rather obscure KipKay blog which shows it’s all easier than it sounds. The site is hosting step by step videos concerning the activities of the modern tinkerer. In the author’s words: “First time in the world a blu-ray laser from a Playstation 3 has been installed in a Star Trek Phaser! Build one yourself for around $100. I "Boldly go where no man has gone before"! Watch the video and then follow the Steps to build your own! “

While talking about the war of next generation consoles, it’s only right to take things one step further into the world of Star Trek – The Next Generation. Fans might be interested in replicating the uber technology of tomorrow with help of Sony's PS3 console of today. In the video you’ll see detailed information on how to use a Blu-Ray laser assembly from the PlayStation 3 to create a convincing Star Trek phaser for under $100. The laser was e-bayed for around 40$, toy replica phasers are worth 30$, a dremel tool will be needed, along with a soldering iron, and other handy tools. With a bit of patience and skill, everyone can replace toy's existing light bulb with a Blu-ray diode for massive light effects. I’m sure we’ll soon have reports of trekkies blinding themselves in epic recreations of Star Trek battles.
