Fun Office Games

On September 15, 2009, Mad Finger Games released "Samurai: Way of the Warrior", one of the most original and entertaining cut and kill games till this day. You can find it on App Store under the category games with a listed price of $2.99. "Samurai: Way of the Warrior" was developed for the iPod touch and iPhone running the third operating system for the iPhone platform. Mad Finger Games is a new private software company founded just this year. It was founded by know games software developers like: Tomas Sauerstrom, Michal Babjar, Pavel Cizek, Marek Rabas and Tomas Slapota. Doing so, all their products will deliver good satisfaction to their customers.

The game will put you in the shoes of a powerful samurai in the ancient Japan. You are Daisuke Shimada, a samurai with one purpose: to defeat the evil Daimyo Hattoro who maintains the chaotic war with the only intention to spread terror and fear in all Japan. This is probably one of the best games found in the App Store, mostly because of its excellent game play and story line. The graphics are indeed amazing. The story is well introduced to the player by using a great quality illustrated comic book style vignettes, very Max Payne like (I miss that game, but we don't have to wait much more for the third installment coming from Rock Star Games in the winter of 2009).  "Samurai: Way of the Warrior" is visually stunning, with great controls cleverly using the touch screen for combos.

The game doesn't have virtual joysticks or gamepads; you just have to use swipes and taps. But don't worry once you will familiarize yourself with the controls you will understand how great they actually work. You can land a three hit combo that concludes with your enemy splitting into two pieces with blood splashing the screen. If you haven't figure it out by now, the game is violent. The main story could take several hours to complete. However if you are the average game player, with no more than one hour of a game per day, "Samurai: Way of the Warrior" might just last you a full week. Beside the normal mode, you also get a Dojo mode, where you battle extremely difficult wave of enemies in an arena. Even without the Dojo mode this game is captivating; therefore you will probably play the game more than once.

The game really shines in motion. Everything is 3D with great details and visual depth with the full package: buildings, plants, and objects fleshing out the environments. Beside the realistic animation, you also get seven different levels, each one with a unique design. Don't expect to very different enemies. Their variety consists in the different colored clothes and with different attack tactics. Their fighting skills evolve from loser (in the beginning) to expert (in a short time).

The game has a good artificial intelligence which offers excellent fight mechanics. In order for you to win the game, you have to be creative and combine different fight tactics. But then again, this will not be proven difficult, because the game offers more than 12 combos to use in fighting. However, your timing must be perfect. Once you start a combo, you will be vulnerable until the combo ends. The fight controls work perfectly.

In front of an enemy you are free to attack by any move you might want to choose, just swipe or tap the touch screen of your iPod touch or iPhone. Combos are building from basic gestures (left swipe swings left, the same only for the right and swipe up for an overhead blow). All this combos make the fighting simple and on the iPod touch and iPhone it even feels natural. "Samurai: Way of the Warrior" is a great game, with the excellent art style and unique control scheme, this game will keep you busy for a while hacking through your enemies.

Games Fun

On May 11, 2009, Id Software released "Wolfenstein RPG" (version 1.0.0) for iPod touch and iPhone running with the third operating system for the iPhone platform. "Wolfenstein RPG" is pretty good action shooter. Why only pretty good? This game is not exactly state of the art, with the 2D graphics and just first person game mode. Even so, "Wolfenstein RPG" might just exceed your expectations. The game is designed for casual customers.  "Wolfenstein RPG" has an appealing story, and a great responsive control scheme that works excellent.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
Unlike the "Wolfenstein" game for PC's where you were getting a great action shooter with lots of enemy confrontations, scary robots and all the weapons in the world, the "Wolfenstein RPG" is a rather more slow game. Basically when you shoot your enemy, the enemy shoots you back and you kind of giving one another turns to shoot (very unrealistic). Even with such bad action, the game is still pretty dynamic. The old 2D graphics makes the game more suitable for 2nd generation iPod touch and iPhone 3G. However if you are looking for a realistic 3D action shooter for your iPhone 3GS or your brand new iPod touch 3rd generation, then keep looking (this is not what you are looking for).

The game puts you into Sergeant B. J. Blazkowicz's shoes, leader of U.S fighting unit assigned with a special mission. You have to stop the Axis Army from destroying the world. Therefore you travel to Castle Wolfenstein where you will fight zombies, mutations, elite army, robots, insane prisoners and more. You can fight one on one with no weapons, using just your fists and boots, or engage into a full weapons war.

The game has nine levels with three difficulty modes for you to play. There is no easy mode, only normal, hard and nightmare. Like any other game from App Store, "Wolfenstein RPG" also includes mini games that appear randomly in the game play.

The "Wolfenstein RPG" lacks great graphics, but includes excellent controls. You have an arsenal made out of 16 weapons including Spiked Brass Knuckles, a submachine gun, and dynamite on your iPod touch and iPhone. The controls are very intuitive and are responsive. A d-pad is provided for the basic functions like forward and backward movement. Because the most of the time you move through corridors, you actually don't need complex movements.

For a better understanding of the your remaining life, current level, weapons and discovered secrets, "Wolfenstein RPG" provides you with an informational mini display positioned at the bottom of the screen. The inventory is the collection of all items collected through the entire game (weapons, ammo, treasure and health). All of these are important for you to play more smoothly (because the game offers all the information you need there won't be moments when you will run out of ammo). You can easily switch between different weapons by just tapping the screen (the switch doesn't happen very fast, but then again the game is not fast either).

For shooting your enemies, just tap on the target. Because you have the equal opportunity with the AI, you should expect getting shot pretty often. "Wolfenstein RPG" is not so much a role playing game, than is rather more about interaction. You can uncover secrets by just tapping the screen and reveal stolen treasures or weapons and even ammo. Your character will have conversations with a variety of characters, from normal to the most insane characters of the Wolfenstein Castel.

The game play of "Wolfenstein RPG" is well balanced with all the 32 enemies (soldiers, zombies you name it, all of them being injected with weird substances) and side incidents to keep your interest on a high level. For the shooter fans, not even the nightmare mode should be a problem. However, this game is destined for the average consumer; therefore the nightmare difficulty might be quite the challenge. One of the best features of this game, beside the great controls, is the availability to listen to your iTunes music library during the game.

Fight the enemies and save the world on your own playlists (great feature). This shooter is a good game for the normal players. It works well on the 2nd generation of both iPod touch and iPhone. It will not crash your device like other graphic - rich applications. Therefore, if you are an average game player looking for an entry level action shooter, "Wolfenstein RPG" is just what you need.

Fun Fun Games

On August 05, 2009 Id Software released "DOOM Resurrection", an excellent first person shooter that will exceed your expectations. You can find "DOOM Resurrection" on the App Store with the version 1.1 for the iPod touch and iPhone, running the third operating system for iPhone. "DOOM Resurrection" will take your iPod touch or iPhone beyond previously imagined limits. "DOOM Resurrection" comes packaged with a brand new, technologically advanced chapter in the DOOM Saga. This chapter is very familiar with the story line from the movie "DOOM".

The excellent animation, great graphics and adrenaline rush sound effects create a new indescribable experience. The game follows a pre-determined script. Therefore you will not have freedom of doing whatever you want, or walk around. This is not a plus, because it would be nice to be able to change the game every time you play it by just taking a different approach. For all the old fans of "DOOM" this is not a bad feature. Most of the fans like the first person shooter direction without any freedom. It makes the game easier to be understood by just building the action. Every new level will bring a more continuous action flow coming towards you.

The story will put you in the shoes of a Marine soldier sent on Mars to investigate a distress SOS. It seems the scientist from the research facility on Mars lost control on their mutational experiment, transforming only the ones with the violence gene into monsters (well with 24 chromosomes, weird).

The experiment should have been a success, allowing humans to gain their 24 chromosome. However, only the non violent humans at the molecular level can gain this pair of chromosomes without becoming monsters. As the last survivor of your Marine unit, you have to defeat all the monsters and tell the secret of what happened on Mars. You can only do this after the base lockdown comes to an end. This will happen on the last level.

Remember the Earth's future depends on your success. End of line, the storyline involves the Union Aerospace Corporation story. The graphics and animation are done perfectly. The game works smoothly on both iPod touch 2nd generation and iPhone 3G; therefore no need to purchase a new iPod 3rd generation or iPhone 3GS.

When you are walking through the passages of station, the sense of dread is all around you. "DOOM Resurrection" has four levels of difficulty: recruit, marine, veteran and nightmare (it is easy to guess which one is the hardest). Also, it comes with two modes, Story Mode and Free Mode. First mode, Story Mode has 8 levels that involve shooting all the zombie-monsters through the Mars station. Because this is a story mode, cut dialogue scenes provide more of the storyline as well as highlighting objectives for the next level. At the end of each level, you are ranked from A to F based on your entire performance (shooting accuracy, health and item pickups).

The second mode, Free Mode allows you to play any level already played in the Story Mode. If you are looking for a breathtaking action survival then choose the veteran difficulty. However if you are looking for a suicidal mission, do choose the nightmare difficulty. "DOOM Resurrection" is not a game to be played with easy and medium difficulty. If you were planning to, then just revise either your purchase plans or playing plans. If you like the manual gear on cars then you definitely have to go for the manually calibration. If you enjoy the comfort of your automatic gear then go for the auto calibration. The game control scheme is truly revolutionary. For weapons tap the upper left corner; if you run out of ammo, reload by tapping the upper right corner; you can fire by tapping the bottom left corner, and other. In a direct contact with an enemy, dodge or cover by simply tapping the bottom left corner.

In order to play this game properly, grab all the glowing items you can find. Also pick up ammo, health and weapons. "DOOM Resurrection" offers from the beginning an infinite ammo assault rifle. By doing so, you will not find yourself unarmed on an extraterrestrial base full of zombie-monsters. Along the whole game you will encounter 5 types of creatures: typical zombies, fat zombies, commando zombies, hell knights and Arc Viles and maggots. All this creatures will attack in different ways, therefore watch your back. The game itself can be played by an average user (1 hour play per day) in almost a week. However you don't have a good replay value.

Once you've played it you're done. Because of this disadvantage, "DOOM Resurrection" got an upgrade with a new Challenge mode that brings to the game 40 unique challenges. Overall, "DOOM Resurrection" is a great first shooter person. It may be one of the best found on the App Store, because of its excellent graphics, good sound effects and realistic story line. For only $6.99 you get a good balanced game with little drawbacks.
