Outdoor Racing Games for Kids

Here are some outdoor racing games that your kids will love to play.

Treasure Chase: Draw a safe line behind the line of players. One player holds a tiny item like stone and goes down the line as if giving the treasure into every player’s hands. He secretly keeps the treasure in one player’s hands; then, races to the safe line. If he/she makes it, he/she becomes the next person to pass out the treasure. On getting tagged, that player gets to hand out the treasure.

Pillow Case Race: Put your kids’ feet in old pillow cases and pull the edges around their waist. Delegate a finish line and ask the kids to race to it by hopping in their pillow cases.

Animal Race: In this racing game, kids pretend to be animals. Pick some kids to play frogs, some to be ducks and others to be crabs. Children should walk like their animals to reach the finish line. Ask the kids to try to imitate the sounds of their particular animals. While kids make noises of the animals they are playing, it is interesting to listen to such type of noises.

Outdoor Racing Games for Adults

Three-legged race, sack race and running race are some great options for outdoor running games for adults. Tied-hands race is another nice game in this category. To play this running game, split the group of adults into teams of two players. The partners in every pair stand closely while facing each other. Their hands are then tied at the elbows and after then, they have to run in one direction. It is necessary to take safety measures for such types of races because there is a risk of the players falling to the ground during the course of racing and hurting themselves.

You are never old to play games. Truly, age is not a barrier to play and enjoy. Outdoor racing games amuse you. They are thoroughly enjoyed by your kids and you walk down the memory Adults miss their youth most in their adulthood. The first we’ll be presenting is called “Ha ha ha”. It is very simple to play but also fun. Have the kids lying somewhere on the ground (or on the grass). The first person sits normally, the second sits with his head on the first persons stomach and so on. The first kid says “Ha”, the second says “ha ha”, the third “ha ha ha” and so on, until everyone said the correct number of Ha’s. Usually you won’t get to the point where everyone will said all the “ha’s” because the group will burst into giggles and laugh.

Another game is called “Around the world”. Have the group of kids sitting in a circle with their hands held together. Another kid will be sitting in the centre of the circle. Break a set of linked arms and put a plastic hoop (a big circle) in between and then connect their hands again. Now the circle is trapped and has no way out of the chain of hands. The person sitting in the middle will have to get the hoop around the circle, from the point where it starts and back again. He will have to pass the hoop over and under the other kids. Give each kid a limited amount of time, and the person who will get the hoop “Around the world” as fast as possible is the winner.

An interesting game is the “Back to back”. This is all about team work. Make pairs of kids with about the same height and weight. They have to sit on the ground, back to back. The objective for them is to stand up from the ground, in unison. The parent or teacher may stand close to the kids to be careful so they won’t fall and injure. After they completed this task you can make groups of four or even eight and get them to the same task.

Some very famous outdoor games are the slip n’ slide games. For these kinds of games you will need some supplies to make some kind of a course or a toboggan. Of course the surface of the course must be really slippery. Usually these games are played during the summer, and the kids will be naked (or at least their upper side of the body). To make the course you will need a long piece of plastic, and to make it slippery you can use oil, shampoo, or other slippery liquids, but the most simple way is to use a lot of water. The goal of the game is simple…the kids will have to run and then throw themselves on the slippery surface and slide as much as possible. To make it easier for the kids, place the plastic on a valley. Be careful to also make a stopping area. After the slide they can fall directly in water, or on a big pile of hay or anything else. But make sure that plastic surface doesn’t end  suddenly, so they can get injured.

Another game involving team work is called “Amoeba Race”. First make teams of at least 5 persons. Then tie a rope around all of them, at the waist level. Make the rope as tight as possible without hurting the kids. Then make a predetermined track with or without obstacles, and get them to run on the course. You can get two or more teams to make a race, or you can get the time of each team.

Another fun game that can be played in summer is the Balloon squash. For this one you will need a lot of balloons. You can fill them with shaving cream or foam to make the game more fun, but you can also use simple balloons. If you are suing shaving cream or another material, then you must also place a plastic tarp on the place where the balloons will be popped. Divide the kids into two teams, and line them in order. Place them at about 10 meters from the balloons. When you give the start, the kids will have to run as quickly as possible to the balloons, then get a balloon and sit on him until it pops. After that he must get back to his team, and tag the next player to go. The first team who will get all of its players accomplish this, is the winner.

If you are a gym teacher, and your students really like basketball, you can get them to try this game. First divide the kids into 3 teams (we assume that you have 2 baskets on the field). One team has the ball, and the others will each sit on one side of the filed, at one basket. The team that has the ball will have to attack one of the other teams. Now the rules of basketball are the same as in a normal game. If the team who is attacking scores a basket, then it can move on to the other team. If the team who is defending gains possession of the ball then it will be the center team, and will have the possibility to attack. The team that will score the most of the points is the winner. You can try this game if you have too many students for a regular basketball game. This way the teams will be changing really fast (at just one basket), and all the kids will have the chance to play.
