Fun Math Taks Games
If you are looking to have some fun on the internet , there are many activities that you can choose from. For example you can listen to music, watch videos on youtube, communicate with friends (or with new people from all over the world), watch images and you can also play some video games. Of course you can find many downloadable games on the internet, but a much simpler solution is to play a free online video game. These are usually made with the flash technology and you can play them directly from your internet browser, without having to download or install anything. These kind of games are really diverse, having all sort of topics and characters. Some of them are really funny or silly, but of course not all of them. There are also more serious games, games that require some concentration and intelligence. And there are also educational games, for kids but not only. Through some of these games a child can learn the alphabet, or learn how to count, how to type or learn different objects such as chemistry or math.

So today we are going to discuss about some fun math games that can be found on the internet. Unlike you are really crazy about math, this domain can be very boring or annoying for most of us. And also for the kids. So that’s why for a math game to be fun, it need to be combined with something else. An example is the “Coolmath’s Crazy taxi M 12” game. This one combines math with driving, so it can be really fun for kids, especially for boys. So to play this game you must know a little bit about driving and also a little bit about math. The objective of the game is to bump into some cars on the road, while avoiding others, and also to get to the finish line in time. Each car will have a number written on it, and you will receive specific instructions before each mission. For example you will be asked to hit only into the cars that have numbers on them that are multiples of 2. So to do this you will have to know the multiples of 2, so here are some of them: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and so on. In other levels you will have to bump into the multiples of 7 ( 7, 14, 21, 28 etc.) or into the multiples of 10 (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and so on). So you have to have some math knowledge to be able to accomplish all tasks and to finish each level. Sometimes there will be more cars in front of you matching the description, so try to be fast and to hit as many as you can. If you will bump into a wrong car there won’t be anything wrong happening, but you will stop, and lose quite a lot of time. There will be also obstacles in your way, that you will have to jump over. And the car is looking quite nice, so after all this is a fun game, that will keep your child busy for a lot of time…and which also will learn him about multiples.

Another fun math game is the one called “Add em up”. In this one you will have in front of you a board with many numbers and you will also see the next number (or tile) and the queue of numbers that will follow. Your objective is to place the number on the board, in such a way that all the surrounding tiles will add up to that value. If you didn’t understand yet, here is an example: if in the box you have the numbers 1, 2 and 3, the sum of them is 6. So you will need a tile containing the number 6 to place it there and to make those tiles to disappear. Your final goal will be to make all the tiles from the board to disappear. The tiles have number just from 1 to 9 so you might ask yourself what happens if the numbers add to a number bigger than 10. Well in this case, the only number that matters is the last digit. Let’s take an example: if you have in a square a 9, a 2 and a 7 they will add up to 18. The digit that counts is the last one (8), so you will need an 8 to make these tiles disappear. Whenever you get stuck you can use some of the power moves you have. These are: the image of a square with an arrow on it will give you a fresh queue with new tiles, the image of an arrow will undo the last move you made, the image of the X will allow you to choose any number and eliminate all the instances of that number from the board, the question mark sign will randomly change all the tiles from the board and the image of a bomb will allow you to pick a spot from the board and to eliminate all the surrounding tiles. You can choose to play one of the 4 game modes, that are: practice mode, puzzle mode, panic mode and classic mode, and each one will have specific tasks. So after all this is a nice game, that will stimulate your mind, and it can be played by persons of any age. (with the condition to know how to add numbers :).

A site offering many educational games, and also math games is http://teachingtreasures.com.au. These are educational games for kids, and the games are sorted by the age of the child that they are suited for. You will find games for ages from 5 to 8 years, from 9 to 10 years and from 11 years above. These are not quite real games, they are just involving different math operations. So if your child does not like to write on the paper, you can get him to learn math and do calculations directly from the computer. Of course be careful and don’t let him use the “Computer” found in Windows.

Some operations are simple and they can be made mentally, while others are more complicated, so after all the child will have to use a piece of paper…and then write the correct answer on the keyboard. First start the timer, and then start the calculations. You will have 5 minutes, which is more than enough to make all the tasks. Of course if you finish them faster, you can press the “check answers” button, and all the operations will be automatically verified. You will see which ones are good and which are wrong. You can also use the “clear work” button to delete all the answers written so far, and to start all over again. Good luck!
