Changing The Game

AMD is changing the game! No, they didn't release any "out of this world" piece of hardware, and even the ATI HD 4800 series launch has been delayed a little, being now expected for the 23rd of June. Leaving that aside, we have some news regarding AMD's newly launched AMD Foundation, which announced this week its Changing the Game initiative, a project with a very interesting and useful goal - to "improve critical technical and life skills by teaching kids to develop digital games with social content."

AMD Changing the Game

According to Suzanne Seggerman, co-founder and president of the initiative, "Today’s youth are highly concerned about social issues and the current generation of youth gamers is among the most socially conscious in history." Really? Maybe in her area, because most of the youths around me don't give a rotten tomato on social issues, other than "social drinking," "social smoking" and related things..."The movement toward educating and engaging youth through digital games for change not only raises awareness of the importance of social issues, but gives youth an opportunity to make a difference," she concluded. I fully agree with this, but I need to see it happening, too.

What else can I say? I really hope AMD will manage to accomplish these noble goals, because there's always more to computers and gaming than the machine and the raw performance. Behind most computers and games that are being played, online or offline, there's a child, and in many cases, that computer can shape the future of a human being. Good to see someone is finally doing something about it, or at least they are trying!
