On September 22, 2009, ICS Mobile Inc released "Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense" a tower defense game with several elements merged from both RPG games, but also from RTS games. You can find this application on App Store under the Games category, with the last available version, 1.0.5, for $1.99 price tag. "Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense" is compatible with both iPod touch and iPhone running the second or third generation operating system for the iPhone mobile platform.

This game can easily be summarized as being the most intense navy tower defense game available on the App Store. For the time being this game only offers two chapters out of 15. However, 15 chapters are too much for any game. Potential customers are not going to keep their interest in the same game for two years. You get a detailed story line if you are interested; however, usually tower defense games are not about story lines but more about strategies. The game play is straight forward; nothing unique but then again plain games need unique features to sell. The first chapter introduces three types of attacks, at the sea level, aerial attacks, and undersea attacks.

The second chapter brings almost the same game play, but with a new story line which should provide sufficient interesting value for tower defense games fans to play it. Even if the game sports a real time 3D engine, the graphics are no too great. I mean, sure they're not bad because the motion is fluid, but there are other tower defense games with better graphics on App Store.

The controls are quite sharp and intuitive. You don't need time to understand them, especially if you are not a stranger to tower defense games. You get about six offensive weapons such as machine guns, mines, and air fighters, while in the enemy side you are going to get up to eight enemy forces. A great feature is the artificial intelligence used, because your enemies are not having a direct attack, their attack could change depending on your weapon positions and scale upgrade.

As you already know, if you play enough and win you can unlock several achievements, and also add your score to online support page. By using the special Facebook "Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense" page you can easily challenge anyone you might want. In case you were wondering "Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense" includes three difficulty levels, seaman, lieutenant, and admiral.

If you are planning to get this game, I suggest you wait until the next update its released since it will bring the third chapter, a new map, better controls, and a new user interface that will load much faster than the previous one. Overall, "Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense" is a good balanced tower defense game, which may provide for the fans of this genre enough features for them to play this game for its whole replay able value.
