PSP Hacking, 3000 Edition

Hacking my hardware was always something that attracted me, but I have chosen to stuck with some moderate overclocking and once I even used a custom, unofficial BIOS for a mainboard with problems, a few years ago - if you can consider overclocking to have something in common with "hacking hardware," anyway. Well, today we'll have a little chat about PSP hacking, and since there's nothing new about Nintendo DSi hacking, I think this should be good at least for some of those into bending their game console to their will...

This story also directs a ray of light over Nintendo DS' recent gains over Sony's handheld, since things become pretty clear - if the PSP has piracy and hacking issues, a title for the DS could bring more money than one for the PSP, since this last one is more likely to be pirated. Of course that Sony hoped the PSP-3000
to be free of hacks, but this freedom has been taken away earlier than expected.

Only a month after its release, the PSP-3000 was cracked by some smart boys, who released a battery, known as “Lite Blue Tool”, which can be purchased for 30 dollars. This battery allows you to put the console in full service mode, and it also works with older models of the PSP.

Sold by Datel, a company from England, the battery has a switch allowing you to move from service mode into normal operation, and since you can use it to downgrade the firmare of your PSP and run those tools useful for piracy and hacking...there you have it - PSP hacking, now done with a simple battery's switch!
