Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon
Luigi is now stuck in a ghost busting job and earning much better than what he used to earn as a plumber. His new jobs takes him to vacuum up ghosts and earn coins, gold bars and cash.
Once again the Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon casts Luigi as an assistant of professor Elvin, an old little man speaking in Japanese and looks like a distant relative of Captain Olimar. This time Luigi has been given the job of busting the ghosts around the city.
Now the question is: Why Luigi only? Well, Luigi is afraid of everything and even its fun to watch him getting scared. Luigi is sent to different haunted locations, where he has to make the places ghost free using his spectral vacuum, The Poltergust 5000. This task is like fishing, where you have to stun the ghost using the flashlight, after which using vacuum you can "hook" them up. Occasionally power boost is required for trapping the ghost completely inside the vacuum. In some or the other way, it looks like a Ghostbusters, which is quite fascinating. It's quite appealing to see ghosts trying to escape from the sucking stream coming out of the vacuum.
Other than hunting ghosts, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is an adventure game, where Luigi is being involved in solving various puzzles for locating new items and opening new pathways. The Poltergust (Vacuum Cleaner) supports various attachments that help during exploration. The "Dark-Light Device" reveals invisible objects whereas a "Flash bulb" activates special sensors. Even the Vacuum cleaner is interesting in its own way. Luigi can use it to suck up rugs and uncover hidden switches.
Talking about the Dark Moon's locations, you will experience everything, from gloomy mansions to deserted mines. Also, there are several hidden rooms and strange devices included in the game that are fun to discover. After playing for a while, the game structure starts dragging. Each location is headed to an open world and all Luigi's goals are broken into several missions and all discrete chunks leads to repetition. Even capturing ghosts become boring after certain levels. All the ghosts differ slightly in their attacking patterns that makes it even easier for Luigi to catch them. Second half of the game offers shorter missions, which might be a disappointing point for most of the gamers.
Even though Dark Moon features three different multiplayer modes, there is no incentive given to the player for working together. Also, there is a time limit option added to the multiplayer mode that would not allow you to apply your strategies. There are few pre-recorded voice clips available but the online communication is unavailable, which may not give you enough reason to play the game again in multiplayer mode.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is all around charming, goofy Luigi himself. The basic idea of catching and busting ghosts using a vacuum is quite appealing. Even the environments are absolutely worth exploring and seeing. The game has scope but after walking down in a laborious way through all the 5 locales, you may end up feeling exhausted.
