Skylander Swap Force Review

Activision, the world's first independent developer and distributor of video games for gaming devices, is quite popular among kids for its gaming series. Its recent Skylanders franchise is being well accepted by the targeted customer, which in this case are the kids.

Collectible toys have been around most of the kids as they consider it to be one of the precious gifts they could get during their childhood days. Toys, such as Beanie Babies, Barbie fashions, Matchbox cars etc. comes under such collectible toys.

What if somehow these toys come alive through video-game console? This is what Activision tries in its new Skylander game. This game is accompanied by a gaming disk and a "Portal of Power" that gets plugged into your PlayStation or Xbox. As soon as you put a Skylander figurine on the portal, the character gets materialize in the video game. One of the highlighting points of Skylanders Swap Force is that some of the creatures split into two, allowing you to replace their tops and bottoms. One of the widely available starter kits consists of a Blast Zone (a bomb-throwing robot) and a Wash Buckler (a sword-wielding octopus). Just by switching their parts, you will get two new characters Blast Buckler and Wash Zone. In this way, you can swap remaining 16 Swap Force Skylanders, giving you a whole new set of 256 characters, which is quite interesting.

Skylander Swap Force

Each of the Swap Force models contains one of the eight available skills, which include bouncing, climbing, teleporting etc. Swap Force is considered to be the best game of the Skylander series. With the story content filled with silliness, villain Kaos is aggressively destroying the Skylands and you and your swap force models have to stop him anyhow. Experience a beautiful journey across the series of well-designed environment like never before. From snow-cap wearing mountains to the inside of a volcano, whole gaming series is blessed with such beautiful environment scenes all around. To make the game more challenging, there will be puzzles to solve, treasures to find and monsters to fight. Spend all your loot in buying new powers and weapons for your Skylanders.

Skylander's Swap Force is designed by the "Vicarious Visions" studio that has added a new ability to all the characters. They can jump now. The addition of this ability brings-in the feeling that kids used to get during "Super Mario Bros" gameplay. Plenty of running and jumping can now be done by the Swap Force models. Apart from that, they can zip around rails, navigate maze and can do fishing as well. Some of the game's toughest challenges consist of certain areas that can be unlocked via particular Skylander only.

"Swap Force" is one such series of Skylanders that can be played by parents and kids, together. Depending on the story levels, they both can make teams and can face all set of challenges in a cooperative and competitive way. You can survive the game by using just three characters in the starter kit. You can use any of the Skylanders released since 2011.

How to Survive Game Review

Want to remove your frustration? How about picking up a baseball bat of your choice and bursting out zombie's skull. Killing zombies were never as much fun performing tasks as it is in "How to Survive" game.

You will always find yourself just a quick jog away from handling zombies. After surviving a couple of levels, you will get access to healing plant that acts as a minor health boost when used with fabric so as to make an effective poultice. While making poultices, time freezes, so you don't have to worry about it.

Crafting weapons on your own is more exciting than finding blueprints. Along with a rifle that can kill almost any damn thing in a single shot, you will also get unlimited supply of ammo. Combat may not be that much great, but it is acceptable for sure. Targeting popping zombies is an easy task to perform. Nocturnal zombies are the most pathetic one, who travel at night and once you shine torch on them, they will either freeze or run, making it easier for you to take the shot. The zombies here have been shown more powerful and effective. They appear all of a sudden out of nowhere and do serious damage.

How to Survive

However, Zombies don't evolve much in this game. They are portrayed weaker than the player, who can go handling from one to an entire group of zombies without putting-in much effort. The whole concept of How to Survive is wrapped up with some challenge maps and horrifying story modes. Also there is an option of bringing a co-player for helping you out for local and online challenges by selecting any of the three available characters to choose from. There is a main event where you have to spend up to 7 hours, just to repair a sea plane. In addition to the missing surprises and a few characters, even the writing is done poorly and is edited. There are certain things that are added in this game with no point of needing it. One of such things is the concept of introducing talking monkeys. Also when the game has reached toward a politely ending, a 20 item scavenger hunt makes no sense at that point of time.

There are not many funny moments to enjoy in this game. Even the horror portion seems to be missing most of the times. The interesting idea of making Zombie based game goes in vain. It could perhaps have become much more realistic game if all the storyline, characters and other action related stuffs were framed as per the requirements. In short, the game could have been neater.

The problem is not about what is there in the game, but it's about what is missing. Developers tried to create something functional, but not desirable. With so many zombie related games out there, developers really have to come up with some unique idea in order to avoid becoming a part of the horde.

If you haven't played any Zombie related game, "How to Survive" could be the one to start with.

Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw is an action packed video game that is developed by Grasshopper Manufacture. It is a game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 video game consoles. The game is quite entertaining with all the sugar coating on the top. The game features a cheerleader Juliet Starling who is also a zombie hunter and whose mission is to fight zombies in a fictional California high school. The game is being made available by Warner Bros.

When you take a look at the box art of the game, you very well can guess what to expect. The game isn’t realistic but it isn’t going to set any new boundaries as well. If you are looking out for an adventure game filled with oodles of fun, then this game is your go-to.

In the game you will be playing as Juliet Starling - a zombie hunter just like everyone one else in her family. Juliet Starling suddenly finds her typical American school and her town overtaken by zombies. Her boyfriend’s head gets bitten by a zombie, after which she had to decapitate it and magically keep it alive. It may sound weird and absurd, but the great thing about the Lollipop Chainsaw is that it has a great sense of humor.

The foundation of the gameplay is based on two types of attacks. One the pom pom hits and chainsaw attacks. Apart from these, there is a good amount of dodging as well. But the core gameplay is all melee, but is thankfully upgradable to levels where you can battle off some great battle combos.

Another great thing about this game is that you won’t find yourself doing the same routine for very long. Every level has its unique share of mini-games and variations that will keep you engaged.

Everything about the Lollipop Chainsaw is fun, bright and cheerful, which just a bit of cell shading to add to that comic feel. Most of the paths that you play in this game are linear and has a very limited scope for exploration. But then again, that is the main aim of the game. After finishing level, you are awarded. You can pass from one level to another very quickly. The bosses in the game are slightly exaggerated, but the end combat is very satisfying in an old school way.

The old school appeal of this game makes the Lollipop Chainsaw very endearing. The game is for all those people who loves some Japanese action and would like to experience a Japanese game. However, this game isn’t for those people who find cheerleaders annoying. All in all, the Lollipop Chainsaw is a sweet game, sweeter than pie!!
